This is a pump shotgun. A pump shotgun requires the user to manually eject the shell from the chamber, whereas an automatic shotgun expels the shell without input from the user. Most shotguns have a smooth bore (the bore is the inside of the barrel). The end of the barrel is threaded to allow for replaceable tubes to be inserted. These are called choke tubes and are about one and a half inches long. The inner diameters of chokes tubes taper at different angles so that when the pellets from a shotgun shell pass through the barrel it is directed at the angle of the choke tube. This allows for a greater or lesser displacement of shot than what could be achieved normally.
