Hunters often build these stationary stands rather than use portable tree stands. There are a number of benefits to a stationary stand. They can handle more weight than climbing tree stands and are generally safer. Also, in colder climates, the boxed in sides of a stationary blind offer protection from wind and, in conjunction with a heater, help to keep heat in.
The sunlight reflecting off this blind helps to make it visible which is how I found this photo opportunity.
On a winter morning a hunter climbs into the same stand as shown in the sunlit picture above. Deer season takes place in the winter because deer are most active during that time as it is their mating season. The blaze orange he is wearing is required by Illinois state law during shotgun season. Deer see in black and white so the bright color does not stand out to them as it does us.
